Stand Out From the Rest

Excerpt from The Star Metro Classified front page 1/9/2007

1) Other from having talent, skills and knowledge to be successful, one need to have a strong brand image as well, in order for them to succeed and keep ahead of competitors.

2) As businesses become more and more competitive, there aer many people out there who offer the same products or services as you do. Regardless of which organization (MNC or small org) or position (CEO or clerk) that you work in or hold, you need to stand out from other people so that you can be in control of your your business or career.

3) Personal branding is a powerful way of communicating the unique promise of value which you offer to your boss or clients.

4) Regardliess of position, busineses we happen to be in, all of us need to understand the importance of branding. We are the CEOs of our own companies: Me Inc.

5) 6Ps to make your personal brand comes alive:

a) Personal
-Begin by understanding your true self. You are original, not one else is quite like you. What do you stand for? What are your beliefs? Joe down a few phrases that describes your unique value, vision, purpose and passion. Tkae some time to discover yoru strengths, weaknesses and hidden talent. Ask yourself what impacts you the most and what drives you.

b) Perception
-It is imperative that you be aware of how you are communicating yourself to those around you. You will need to know your attributes and how others perceive you as an individual. Ask for feedback from those that is close and around you.

c) Position
-You must know your target audience and business or job competitors. How can you stand out unless you know whom you are standing with? When people see your name or face consistently over a period of time, they will assume that you ahve something special and taht you must be successful. Having your own brand keeps you visible within the marketplace as it sends out a clear message about you that makes you worth contacting.

d) Performance
- Establish yourself as an expert in your field because expertise can bring you incrased recognition, allowing you to position yourself well in the hearts and minds of your target audience. - Seek out new and challenging assignments that will build your brand. Write articles to showcase your knowledge and get them published or better still, igve speeches or presentations to share your expertise and achievements.

e) Promote
- You can have an amazing brand, but if no one knows about it, you will not go ahead.
Nothing in marketing is more powerful than a promotion tool called word-of-mouth. What your network of friends, colleagues, clients and customers say about your brand is what the market will ultimately gauge as the value of the brand. Get a personal website. Take your personal image seriously because your appearence is the packaging of your own brand. Remember, you are the product, adn your packaging will either attract or detract people from your product.

f) Planning
- Make an appointment with yourself at least twice a year to re-evaluate your personal brand statement. There will always be competing brands ready to fill in any gap that you leave, so you must work consistently to close the gap. Personal branding works for everyone, no matter which sector you are in.

Generally, people work with you for three main reasons:
i) They know you
ii) The like yoru character or reputation
iii) You create value

When you know yourself, what you offer and what makes you unique, your business or career will progress more effectively.

Life...

The new work is kinda tough, so many things to learn. And one of the senior isn't really helping, being unfriendly also.

It's tough coping with both work and studies, but i guess no pain, no gain. I will try hard to get through this.

I am still at the early stage of the learning curve, when I reach the turning point into the saturation level, I forsee that things will be easier.

Hope all well ends well.

Hello World!

It has been awhile since my last post.

In between, I have lost count on how many time I am depressed and down.

Been through a tough time with AW. I have been avoiding her. I didn't know that she is attached. I felt embarrassed. Even disheartening is the fact that she gave stupid excuses that she tried to let me know, by showing her wallet to me implicitly. I called her to let me know my thoughts and faced off. It sad to have a good friendship ended up this way. She told me that she's a frank and direct person and the last thing in the world would be to think that she's attached. We used to talked and shared alot of things, and I can't imagine that she wouldn't tell me the basic fact that she's attached after all the sms that I've sent to her. I would expect respect and a courtesy notification about this. I have been quite sensitive on this matter. What's the big deal of telling your admirer that you are attached? I thought that she's matured but apparently she ain't so.

However, post-incident, I think I am ok at the moment as opposed to feel killing myself (literally) last time, but I would still have phobia whenever i see her in class. That's the reason I am avoiding her. Part of me is feeling embarrassed of the things/names I said/called her last time and part of me is angry because she's being a hypocrite.

On other matters, I am leaving MOT next week. Not too excited of new company though, maybe I wish that I could stop working altogether and still have a comfortable income every month. I have been transitioning my work to WY. I purposely mention her here because I want to talk something about her. She's quite a chick and I have been noticing her whenever I see her in the office. I didn't expect that I would get to work with her one day even though I think I have been wishing that. It's fun to work with chick I tell you, and particularly smart chick like her. It's a candy for the eye for sure. And after getting to know her, she's has a nice personality. She's realistic, smart, quite matured and has good sense of fashion. Hmn...someone that I would like to get attached to ;) Hopefully I can meet chicks like her in the new company.

Oh, I just celebrated my 25th birthday a few days ago. Celebrated with CS and PP at Cafe Cafe. Pretty nice place to bring a date but the food is just so so and expensive. Fine dining is not really my taste I guess. Had Foie Gras, Escargot, lamb shak and some dessert with red wine there. Most expensive meal that I ever had. I decided to spend PP on the meal to show my appreciation on handling my resume.

A day before, PP, CC and I has Bak Kut Teh at Klang. Not too bad. We had a great chat over some nice Chinese tea brought by CC.

Oh, went to HK also. It's a great place to visit. It has all the attributes of how a developed country should look like; great buildings, excellent public transportation, beautiful people, freedom, proper urban planning etc. Bought a couple of shirts, loads of souvenirs from Disneyland and a Seiko watch. Nice! Definitely will go back there again in the future.

I decided to major in International Business for my MBA. It would give me more exposure as compared to Finance.

I am inspired by character Ari Gold in the drama Entourage at the moment. I wanted to be like him in getting things done, has fiery and intelligent figure of speech, very confident and positive with high energy. Apparently as the latest episode revealed, he also cares for this kids very much, as oppose to his aggresive and all out style in doing his deal.

I am also inspired by YL who came from a small town in Kangsar and trying to survive in KL. Bought unit trust from her. She bought a house in Cheras and kept it damn clean and tidy.
We have similarity, I am a survival as well ! Whenever I see her, I will remind myself not to give up.

I am also also inspired by WY on her way of approaching works, being persistent on learning and following up on issues and being organized.

I am inspired by James Sun from the Apprentice Season 6 LA, to always differentiate yourself and do something more than others. This is important to excel in one's career. I guess this the strategy adopted by CO in MOT. That's how he got to Lead level in such a short time span.

Well, learnt quite a lot these few months and hopefully I would be able to practise these in my new venture.

Well, life is Great! :)
